How to print, fold, staple and trim
  1. Print on A4, landscape, 100% scale, margins none, double-sided, flipped on the SHORT edge. Getting this wrong is the single most common mistake — every page will be upside down.
  2. Check before you commit: print on plain paper first, fold it, and read it through. A paper mockup costs one sheet and saves a whole run.
  3. Fold each sheet in half along the dashed centre line, printed side out. Crease with a bone folder or the back of a spoon.
  4. Nest the sheets inside one another in order — sheet 1 outermost, sheet 4 innermost. Sheet 1 carries the covers.
  5. Align the folded edges against a flat surface, tapping the spine square before you staple.
  6. Staple twice through the spine fold, roughly a quarter of the way in from the top and bottom. A saddle stapler reaches the centre; a standard one works if you open it flat and staple over a soft eraser, then close the legs by hand.
  7. Thread stitch instead, if you prefer: pierce three or five evenly spaced holes along the fold with an awl, then sew a pamphlet stitch with waxed linen thread, ending in a square knot around the long stitch inside.
  8. Trim the fore-edge last — the inner pages creep outward as the booklet thickens. A guillotine or a steel rule and a fresh scalpel blade both work; take 2–3 mm off.

Print landscape at 100% scale, margins None, background graphics on. For PDF, choose Save as PDF in the print dialog. Photos keep their exact aspect ratios — the sheet scales uniformly.
Folding & cutting instructions
  1. Print the sheet landscape at 100% scale, margins set to none.
  2. Fold in half lengthwise (long edge to long edge) along the horizontal fold mark, then unfold.
  3. Fold in half widthwise, then fold each half back to the middle — the three vertical fold marks give you eight panels.
  4. Unfold to the lengthwise half-fold. Cut along the ✂ line only — the centre crease between the two middle panels.
  5. Open flat, fold lengthwise again, push the two ends toward the middle — the slit opens.
  6. Collapse into a booklet and crease with the front cover facing out.
